The perfect way to say goodbye to summer

A golden day of croquet at The Wilder

The day at The Wilder on Sunday 28th was a wonderful farewell to summer. Surrounded by the golds of autumn under a deep blue sky, an excellent day of croquet was enjoyed by all who took part.

Shannon and Lekas, our hosts from The Wilder, suitably reached the semi-finals before going out to an Antigonish team who were themselves pipped in the final by Andrew and Rebekah Wetmore.

One of Rebekah Wetmore’s paintings currently on show at the gallery

Gallery supporters and visitors will recognise Rebekah’s name as being one of this season’s most talked about artists. Her remaining work will be on display until the gallery closes for the season.

Vibrant Work From Melissa

CloseUp2Good things just keep on happening at the gallery! Last week we had a visit from Melissa Sue Labrador, the widely admired artist from North Queens. She brought us five paintings and today they have their first outing in the gallery.

Her distinctive style and vibrant use of colour are vividly apparent in each one. Taken together with the spiritual awareness rooted in her traditions, her work is a great addition to our display.

(As ever, the picture here hardly compares to the first-hand experience.)

Three Special Days

For three days starting  Friday 5th September the talented Tammy Lewis will once again be taking charge of the gallery. Not only is Tammy a regular visitor to the gallery, but her amazing glass art has been a constant and popular feature throughout the season.

The Season by Tammy LewisTammy creates truly inspiring images, often with forest or ocean themes, and has a growing reputation not only here in Nova Scotia but also in the USA and Europe.

We hope you’ll take the opportunity to drop in and see some of the beautiful art she creates.

(Opening hours will vary according to Tammy’s family commitments.)

Too Many Lates

TMLChillingWe’ve been delighted to welcome a surprise visitor to the gallery over the summer. TM Lates has spent much of the time quietly  in the background, but managed a little relaxation a while ago, enjoying a coffee and chillin’ on the porch.

TMLChillin2Since then TM has become a house guest, enjoying the last of the summer before heading back to the big city with creator Becky Gartner. Becky is a highly original NSCAD artist and we hope that more of her work will feature in the gallery before the season ends.

And if it doesn’t work out, there’s always 2015 to look forward to.
